Lucius F. Hubbard
Hubbard joined the 5th Minnesota when the regiment formed. He was promoted several times and became a brevet brigadier general on December 16, 1864 because of his actions at the Battle of Nashville. He later became the 9th governor of Minnesota.

1st Lt. Thomas Parke Gere
Adjutant, 5th Minnesota Vol. Inf. Regt. Gere is a Medal of Honor Recipient. He earned this honor by capturing the battle honors of the Fourth Mississippi Inf. Regt. at the Battle of Nashville on December 16th, 1864.
Lt. Gere's grave marker at Arlington Cemetery and the Confederate flag that he captured to earn the Medal of Honor. The Flag is shown in the original and restored condition.
